POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of direct primary and preventive dental care for patients of the Fallon Tribal Health Center (FTHC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Regularly perform a full-range of professional dental services, including: oral and radiographic examination, diagnosis of oral pathology, restoration of cavities, administering local anesthesia, relatively uncomplicated multiple teeth extraction, pulp canal therapy, fluoride use, treating mouth and gum infections, recognizing systemic disease and referring these cases for medical diagnosis and occasional difficult oral surgery.

2. Appropriately consults with dental specialists in managing complex cases, providing postoperative or follow-up care when necessary, and adequately documenting all referrals and treatment in EHR.

3. Provide supervision of dental staff, which includes services performed, reporting requirements, and training/continuing education needs and requirements.

4. Conduct community outreach to tribal communities served by the FTHC including, but not limited to, preventive presentations to local Head Start programs and schools.

5. To attend and participate in staff meetings and appropriate FTHC committees.

6. Increase third party revenue through patient care, proper documentation, planning and management of dental clinic resources.

7. Participate in the development of dental policies & procedures and adhere to all applicable FTHC policies including infection, quality improvement/assurance, etc. and assure that dental practices meet accreditation requirements.

8. Act as role model for and provide information and encouragement to those patients in the community who are interested in pursuing a dental care.

9. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1. Act as an approved Mandatory Reporter of suspected incidents of child/elder abuse or neglect.

2. This position requires compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (Public Law 101-630); Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention regulations (25 CFR Part 63); Employee Background Checks (Crime Control Act of 1990); and Adjudicative Guidelines (Executive Order 12968) and therefore must successfully complete an extensive background check before the start of employment with the Tribe.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have a Graduate degree from an accredited U.S. Dental School.

2. Prefer three (3) years of clinical dental experience (preferably in Indian Health or tribal clinic setting).

3. Must have a current and valid dental license from any State (preference for Nevada licensure).

4. Enrolled and/or eligible as a Medicaid or other third-party insurance provider.

5. Prefer a dentist with a valid and active DEA license.

· Ability to effectively meet and deal with a variety of individuals and groups using tact and diplomacy.

· Ability to work with the Native American population and/or low income populations.

· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

· Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and FTHC policies.
