POSITION DESCRIPTION
Provides outpatient psychiatric care in a primary care setting which includes psychological assessments, diagnosis of individual therapy, medication management services, case management services, referral, and follow-up to clients/patients, and consultation with outside facilities and/or agencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for providing psychiatric services to patients, diagnose or evaluate mental and emotional disorders of adults, adolescents and children; administers programs of treatment; interview patients; and studies medical and social case histories.
- Provides direct treatment management and has medical involvement with the administration of, or care of, persons requiring prescribed psychotropic medication.
- Select, administer, and interpret tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provide consultation to other behavioral health professionals with regard to assessment results and treatment plans.
- Assess patient program and modify treatment programs accordingly; communicate with and counsel family members as appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment and provides after-hours consultation/contact for urgent client situations.
- Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic test for patients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
- Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on patient’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Participate in education programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
- Provides education and information to promote public interest and advocacy for services for people who are chemically dependent, and who have psychiatric emotional and developmental disabilities, as necessary
- Promote and educate on evidence-based preventive care, chronic care needs, and self-management support
- Documents patients’ reactions to treatment, changes in patients’ conditions, summary of care given and patients’ progress and current mental health status and reports in a timely manner on electronic templates in the Health Center’s electronic medical record (EMR).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Completed a nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree prepared Program and have a current license and be in good standing in the State of Nevada as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Must possess current DEA Certificate.
- Preferred Experience of seven (7) or more years in an outpatient setting, with children’s mental health program or community-based practices
- Current Basic Life Support card (or ability to obtain a card within first 90 days of employment).
- Must be in good standing with Medicaid and Medicare

- Knowledge of rules and laws governing mental health and substance use disorder programs.
- Knowledge of psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, and response to treatment, mental status examination, and diagnoses.
- Knowledge of psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment to individuals referred for medication services, both routine and urgent/emergent medication evaluation and treatment.
- Knowledge of prescribing and monitoring of psychotropic medications.
- Skilled in effective communication, both orally and in writing,
- Skilled in preparing concise reports and being able to complete in a timely fashion required documentation the FTHC EMR program.
- Ability to provide education and information to promote public interest, advocacy for services, support, and counseling for people who are chemically dependent and/or who have psychiatric emotional and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to create and maintain current records of treatment as required, including intake, individual support and service plans, updates of plans, summaries and reports of progress.
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with tribal members, the general public, tribal employees, partner agencies, and tribal officials.
- Ability to conduct planning, evaluation, and monitoring of programs and services.
- Ability to attend work as scheduled and/or required and rotating on-call services for emergency and urgent care situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The office setting is a normal work environment. Occasionally work during early morning, evening or weekend. May be subjected to temperature variances in the office. Physical demands may include sitting, standing, or walking for up to eight hours a day. Some bending, stretching, or reaching may be necessary. Lifting up to 40 pounds may be required on occasion. Vision must be correctable to normal range to perform essential functions of position and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contact. - This position is covered by the provisions of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (Public Law 101-630), as amended, which requires an investigation of the character of each individual who is employed, or is being considered for employment, in a position with duties and responsibilities that involve regular contact with or control over Indian children. A criminal history investigation will be performed, and the applicant must meet the requirements of the Act.
- The duties of this position include mandatory reporting pursuant to 1) the Victims of Child Abuse law (34 USC § 20341) and 2) elder and vulnerable person laws (NRS 200.5093), as incorporated by decision of the FBC that elders and those who cannot speak for themselves are entitled to the same protections. Because such laws may subject employees to criminal penalties under FPST LOC § 5-50-040 and/or 18 U.S.C. §§ 1169 and 2258, all employees hired to this position must complete a Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire.
