Our Mission

The Mission of Stepping Stones is to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of quality residential care for Native Youth in Nevada. Youth must be members of a federally recognized tribe. Stepping Stones Youth Facility provides a safe home environment for youth ages 13-18 who are wards of a Tribal Court.

Upon placement at Stepping Stones Youth are scheduled for physical examinations as well as vision, hearing and dental screenings with approved providers. We ensure that their mental health issues are addressed through services at the Fallon Tribal Health Clinic or other approved sources. The clients in the facility follow a schedule which gives them a daily routine. They are given life skills, social skills, prevention education, physical fitness, culture, and education activities every week in the shelter. The youth are encouraged to participate in their spiritual or religious practices while at Stepping Stones. We focus on skills the Youth will use when they leave to help them succeed in their future.

Services Provided

The Shelter offers a full range of residential care; including shelter, supplemental education, substance abuse prevention, health screening, case planning, and recommendations for follow-up care. The shelter receives client referrals through Social Workers, Law Enforcement, Probation Officers, or other child placing agencies whose clients are in need of a temporary place to reside while awaiting placement in a substance abuse facility, behavior modification program, or while trying to resolve family issues for re-unifications.

Bednight Rate/$125.00 per day.

Independent Living Program

The Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe Independent Living Program was developed to provide quality services to eligible Nevada tribal youth who are dependent Wards of a Tribal Court, to aid in a successful transition to independence and self-sufficiency.

The program is funded by two grants, Chafee and FAFFY, both through the State of Nevada. These grants are awarded to the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe to provide services to all eligible tribal youth throughout the state.

“Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.”
