POSITION DESCRIPTION
Plans, organizes, and manages culturally appropriate sports and recreational activities for tribal youth, adults, elders, and families to promote healthy living, fitness, and wellness in a manner that ensure the health and safety of participants and the promotion of a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. Hours are varied and mainly occur afternoons, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the assessing, development, planning, coordinating and setup of age-appropriate fitness and recreational activities, including sports leagues, tournaments, outdoor education, and exposure to new and different activities (i.e., skiing, lacrosse, canoeing, etc.)
- Mentoring, coaching and supporting individuals to facilitate personal, social and educational growth to all participants as well as encouraging greater social inclusion.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, promote, implement, and evaluate sports and recreational programs, special events, and other related activities for various age groups, as assigned.
- Prepare and coordinate the development and distribution of program and event publicity, including news releases, fliers, pamphlets, and brochures.
- Organize and schedule recreation activities such as excursions, special events, and athletics on a tribal-wide wide basis and in coordination with other tribal programs such as the community learning center, senior center, wellness center, etc.
- Maintain close contact with local officials (tribe, schools, health, etc.) and community groups regarding program offerings and coordination of services.
- Monitors event activities to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations, satisfaction of participants and resolution of any problems that arise and monitors and evaluates program activities and events.
- Provides information, resources and training to age-appropriate groups on health-related issues, including, but not limited to health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying; under the guidance of the Health Center health care providers.
- Coordinate volunteers and chaperones for activities and events and able to recruit, train, and supervise paid or volunteer coaches and staff.
- Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; maintain records for registrations and any fees collected (if applicable).
- Recommend the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies and be able to perform minor maintenance for program supplies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and occupational standards; enforce departmentally established rules and regulations.
- Ensures facility, activity, and event set-up and clean-up, in coordination with other FTHC and tribal programs, and ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and inventory of all facility equipment, supplies, and furniture.
- Assists with weekend operations of the Toi Ticutta Wellness Center when available and/or when there are no intramural activities taking place.
- Other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
- Associate of arts degree from an accredited college with major course work in recreation, fitness, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Two years of experience in the implementation of recreational programs, activities, or events is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and basic First Aid certificate required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required to be completed within first 90 days of employment.

- Must be willing to learn Fallon Tribal traditions and gain a thorough understanding of the role of cultural and traditions of the community.

- Must have patience, tolerance, flexibility and a sense of adventure and a willingness to try new things and impart those new ideas to new audiences.
- Must be able to handle confidential or extremely sensitive matters requiring a professional demeanor in this position and react with good judgement in emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment will be extremely varied requiring versatility as part of this position. This position not only requires administrative office work but also include extreme physical (to include physically participating in activities requiring some standing, walking, climbing, lifting stooping, bending, crawling, pushing, driving, cleaning, pulling or any variety of other sports movements) for short to long periods of time. May also include working in cramped difficult spaces. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
The individual selected for this position must be willing and able to tolerate a variety of work and weather conditions including being outdoors in all aspects of weather (including rain and snow), being indoors and in a noisy environment. Stressful conditions may arise unexpectedly, necessitating swift and effective resolution of emergencies and skilled responses to people in a variety of emotional states.
The work schedule of this position can be extensive and varied (to include traveling and/or working, split shifts, evenings and/or weekends), chaperoning on multiple day trips along with handling unscheduled situations and/or emergencies on trips.

- This position must operate a motor vehicle. The applicant must possess a valid State of Nevada driver’s license (or the ability to obtain within 90 days) and must remain insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
