POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position supervises and participates in the operation of the Tribe’s Senior Center; conducts and coordinates education, health, recreational and social services for participants; and provides a nutritional program in accordance with applicable tribal, federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and coordinates a program of health, social, and recreational services for program participants; recruits volunteers and service agencies to provide informational programs and assistance to participants and the program’s site; plans and conducts recreational programs for nutrition program participants.
- In conjunction with the Cook and FTHC Dietitian, prepares menus for meals served at the site; controls raw food purchases to assure compliance with budgetary and USDA nutritional requirements; finds lowest cost providers; orders and receives good for preparation of meals; supervises the preparation of meals; assists in preparation of meals as needed.
- In conjunction with the Fallon Tribal Health Center, plans and coordinates a variety of health and nutrition related presentations, as well as health outreach and promotional events designed to improve the health and wellness of Seniors.
- Coordinate and develop social/recreational and health programs for elders including, but not limited to, focusing on areas such as:
Social/Recreational Health
Exercise Classes Annual Flu Clinics (multiple days)
Swim/Aerobic Classes Monthly Blood Pressure Screening
Bingo/Card Games Glucose Screening
Cultural Activities (beading, basket making) On-Site Wellness Clinics
Annual Senior Fun Day
- Coordinates Senior program services with other providers including the Tribal Health Center, Social Services, BIA, county, state, and other Tribal programs.
- Monitor budget, cost centers, inventory, audit records and work with Finance, as well as collect daily monies for lunches served, track, document and deposit with Finance
- Complete timely reports to grant agencies, tribal, federal and state stakeholders.
- Supervise all staff at the Senior Center and substitutes for other positions in the Senior Center as needed.
- Reviews and certifies applications for participation in the homebound meal delivery program; interviews applicants; makes home visits to monitor need for and delivery of services.
- Administers a program to transport participants to the meal site and special events and supervises staff assigned to deliver meals to the homebound.
- Oversees the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of Senior Center vehicles.
- Prepares, for publication and social media posting, a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding senior programs and activities or services and events in the community.
- Work with the Elder’s Advisory Committee and other Tribal Programs for special events and fundraising opportunities.
- Ensure all employees are trained and have Food Handler Cards including the Manager
- Solicit and supervise all volunteers
- Ensures the safety of all staff and seniors served at the Senior Center
- Other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Business Administration, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of work and/or experience.
- At least four (4) years of management and related work experience is essential.
- Experience with food service programs including USDA, audits and physical plant inspections is mandatory
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Training in food service program operations and nutrition as related to the Title VI and Title III programs preferred
- Working knowledge of computers, word processing and ability to use spreadsheets for monitoring budgets is necessary
- Must be organized and detail oriented to accomplish all goals/standards of food service
- Must have knowledge of bulk shopping/inventory control
- Must have advanced skills in the budget process and tracking expenditures
- Knowledge of proper food handling and food storage
- Must be able to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen
- Ability to interact effectively and courteously with persons in the performance of the required duties
- Must be tested annually for tuberculosis, and be current with Hepatitis vaccinations
- Must obtain an Indian Health Services (IHS) Food Handler Card within 60 days of hire
- The duties of this position include mandatory reporting pursuant to 1) the Victims of Child Abuse law (34 USC § 20341) and 2) elder and vulnerable person laws (NRS 200.5093), as incorporated by decision of the FBC that elders and those who cannot speak for themselves are entitled to the same protections. Because such laws may subject employees to criminal penalties under FPST LOC § 5-50-040 and/or 18 U.S.C. §§ 1169 and 2258, all employees hired to this position must complete a Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire.
