The United Way in Reno, supported by an IRS grant, administers a service called the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program to assist people with low to moderate income in filing their IRS tax returns. The program serves Northern Nevada, including the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and the Walker River Paiute Tribe. Although the program is administered regionally for technical training and some equipment, each area relies on dedicated volunteer tax preparers. The Fallon Business Council has embraced this program to provide this service to all interested Tribal Members.
We have identified a number of employees to be volunteer IRS Certified Tax Preparers. As we are setting up the program we are also training our staff to be ready for the start of the program.
Service Dates: We are set to serve Tribal Members, beginning Monday, 3/3/14 and continuing until we serve those that are interested, to possibly the end of March or to the tax deadline at 4/15/14.
